Senior Membership Information
Since our squadron is a composite squadron, we are open to
senior (adult) membership as well as cadet membership.
What Does this Squadron Do?
We take part in a variety of activities and services,
including search and rescue, fundraisers, model rocketry, assisting in flag
disposal ceremonies, orientation flights, and many other things. Senior
Members are always needed to plan the activities and participate in them.
We hold regular meetings each Monday (except Federal
Holidays) from 6:00pm to 8:30pm. During that time, we have a variety
of classroom instruction and hands-on activities. During the meetings,
our Senior Members are working on the the "jobs" they have been assigned.
What would I do?
In our squadron, we have senior members who are
involved in the positions that support the operations of our squadron and the
three missions of CAP. Some of our positions require frequent
interaction with cadets, while others do not have as much cadet - senior
member interaction.
Initially, you may either be assigned to a position as either
the lead individual or as a trainee depending on your level of experience and
the needs of the squadron. We do our best to match up your talents and
skills to the position, however please be aware that needs of the squadron may
take precedence.
Requirements for Membership
All applicants for membership must be accepted by the unit and
higher headquarters and meet the following requirements:
- Possess the desire, willingness, and capability to promote
the objectives and purposes of CAP.
- Be at least 18 years of age, or a member of the armed forces
on active duty at any age.
- Be a citizen of the United States or an alien lawfully
admitted for permanent residence.
- Suitability. Subject to being waived by the Executive
Director or National Commander, any one or more of the following may be the
basis for rejection or loss of membership:
- Conviction of a felony by any court of record, whether
state, federal or military
- A pattern of arrests and/or convictions including but not
limited to sex offenses, child abuse, DUIs, dishonesty and violence.
- Discharge from the armed services under other than
honorable conditions.
- Falsification of information on the membership
application.
- Previously terminated or non renewed for cause from
membership in CAP.
- Any other unfavorable information brought to the attention
of CAP officials at any level.
How to apply?
Senior Membership is open to all individuals age 18
and over. The process to apply for membership begins with the
interested person attending a squadron meeting and meeting with our squadron
commander or chief of staff. Senior members must provide a completed
fingerprint card (provided by the squadron) along with the original and two
copies of the application (CAP Form 12) and a check for $86 made payable to
NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS, CAP. Retain the fourth copy for your personal
file at home. I would recommend keeping a personal file at home of all
the correspondence and documentation you receive while in CAP. Annual
renewal fees for senior members is $76 payable to NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS,CAP.
The squadron commander would like to point out that
all of our senior members are part of a team. If you are not able or
willing to become part of a team and be a team player, you may want to become
involved in another organization. Remember, there is no "I" in
C-A-P!
Uniforms
Our squadron does not provide uniforms for senior members.
We do have uniform items available in our supply and logistics area that cadets
may acquire and use, however sizes are limited.
Most of our senior members purchase their uniforms at the
Military Clothing Sales Store at Edwards AFB, March AFB or on-line at CapMart.
Level I
Level I is the first level of the Senior Member
Training Program. During Level I, new senior members attend an
orientation and introduction class on Civil Air Patrol and will undergo Cadet
Protection Training. After completing both of those items, and serving 6
months as a Senior Member, you are eligible for promotion to 2nd
Lieutenant.
My Son/Daughter wants to join.
Can I join as well?
Certainly! We have several senior members that
have their sons or daughters as cadet members of our squadron. In most
cases, they are able to participate along with their children and receive an
enjoyable experience of being able to have a parent child activity.
We do ask that parent treat their children as they would any
other cadet, and that cadets show the same respect to their parents that they
would to any other senior member.
